Another final between Canada and the United States – Nation World News

Canada joined the United States in the final of the Women’s World Hockey Championship on Saturday in Denmark.

To do this, the Maple Leaf defeated Switzerland 8 to 1.

It will be the 20th time in 21 editions of the tournament that the two nations will compete for the gold medal. Canada have won 11 times, including last year. The Americans, however, had won the previous five finals.

Coming back to the semi-final matchup against Switzerland, the Canadians got off to a great start and held their rivals to two shots in the first period.

“It’s something we discussed in the locker room before the game, said goalkeeper Ann-Renée Desbiens, in an interview with Sportcom. We wanted to have a quick start to the game and put a lot of pressure on the opposing team. We had to score early in the game to put them on their heels and we succeeded.

Desbiens didn’t keep busy and ended up facing just six shots. She still gave in on a Lara Christen throw, while Switzerland benefited from the presence of Jocelyne Larocque in the dungeon. For her part, Saskia Maurer was bombarded with 56 pucks.

Kristin O’Neill, Jessie Eldridge, Brianne Jenner, Sarah Filler, Marie-Philip Poulin (twice), Sarah Nurse and Emily Clark are the ones who signed up to the brand. In addition, Filler, Sarah Potomak and Ella Shelton each provided two assists.

“I think we played very well tonight. [samedi]. It was probably the most complete game we’ve played so far, Nurse said, according to the IIHF website. This victory comes at the right time and puts the wind in our sails before the game for the gold medal.

Ready for the Americans

This incisive victory will allow the representatives of the maple leaf to face the Americans in a good state of mind, and above all, by advocating continuity.

“We will have to continue to put pressure on the opposing defenders, send the puck to the net and have players ready to take the returns, explained Desbiens.

“We want to be physical, but stay disciplined. These are small things that we have been focusing on since the start of the tournament and that we have managed to implement today.

Canada and the United States meet on Sunday for the final showdown of the tournament. A little earlier, Switzerland and the Czech Republic will battle it out for the bronze medal.
