APM Terminals Algeciras gave this year again their Safety Awards for participation, innovation and constant commitment to prevention during the celebration of Global Safety Day. A week-long day with a wide agenda of confidence-building activities to share the best security practices, in line with this year’s motto, “We make talking safe”, also involving families of employees on terminal and boat tours around the bay.
“Those on the front lines are the ones who can best recognize the changes that are needed so that daily work is done in a safer way. And, on days like today, Global Safety Day, we take the opportunity to speak loudly and clearly about it, with the confidence that we will always be heard to continue improving the methods,” stated Zsanett Balla, Chief Operating Officer, who participated in the institutional work with Alberto Rodríguez, director of HSSE of APM Terminals Algeciras, who spoke in his speech on the importance of continuing to develop a preventive culture, as “a responsible attitude and respect for health protection” in the port environment.


The day also includes talks and workshops in Algeciras, and the conference “The noble art of persuasion to control influencing people”, offered by the expert of influence, persuasion and intuition Javier Luxor, and with the delivery of Safety Awards. This year, the winners are Juan Jesús Lara, for his participation in the creation of Leader Led; Blas Ribero from Adecco, for collaboration with the prevention company; Rafael Puertas, from Urbaser, Antonio Rodríguez Bernal and Francisco Pérez Silva, both CPE workers, for their constant commitment; Aida Pérez, for her involvement; Jesús Suela and Rafael González Martín, for their conscience and sensitivity; and Alonso Ocaña, Antonio Romero, Miguel Ángel Boto, Israel Tizón, Javier Rojas, Francisco Canto and Javier Cano, from Maintenance, and Jesús Cañas and José Berlanga, from Kalmar, for the constant innovation shown in prevention.


In this regard, the facilities of APM Terminals Spanish Gateways They also participated in the initiative this year. “In previous years we have focused our Global Safety Day on what we call the Fatal 5, the five most common risks in our activity, but, in the end, when there are incidents there is a common element, which is concentration , which is linked to mental. health,” explained María Fe Peñaranda, HSSQE director of APM Terminals Spanish Gateways during the opening ceremony. “So this year’s motto is to work so that we feel confident to speak and participate in the issues to control. “Let us talk, share and let us be a matter of luck,” he added.
Throughout the day, there will be exercises with virtual reality glasses, coaching dynamics and yoga sessions, with the aim of promoting open communication in a work environment that helps improve safety, the well-being of staff and the success of the company. In addition, transporters who access the facilities every day to carry or transport containers, and clients, who visit the terminals of Valencia and Barcelona and participate in the agenda of the day, are involved. As a culmination, the former professional boxer and “big brother” of the television program Jero García offered a motivational speech broadcast live from Barcelona in all the company’s facilities.
