When Apple announced the Apple Watch in 2015, no one was quite sure what it would be. In fact, it’s changing from being just another method of communication—or at least that was Apple’s original plans—to a device focused on health in an almost comprehensive way.
However, many years have passed since then. Few models have appeared in this period, and it is logical that some have become outdated over the years. They aren’t many, but Apple has a list of them that it has stopped supporting for this reason. We tell you.
Maybe it’s time to find a new one
For Apple, an obsolete product is one that was released seven years ago. This is not a hard and fast rule at all. Sometimes it’s a little higher, and sometimes it’s a little lower, but it’s about the same time. From this moment on, Apple’s technical service stops giving them any kind of support, so if a device that is considered as such breaks down, you have the option of going to a third party or “retiring” it. There will be no other option.
There are currently four Apple Watches that are officially considered obsolete:
- Apple Watch 1st generation, 38mm.
- Apple Watch 1st generation, 42mm.
- Apple Watch Series 2 de 38mm in aluminum.
- Apple Watch Series 2 de 42mm in aluminum.
If you have any of these and you continue to use it on a daily basis, we recommend that you take special care of it. Chances are that if your screen breaks you won’t find someone who can repair it. This is an extremely complicated process unlike the iPhone, so a third party may not be able to do it.
In any case, we shouldn’t confuse the term “obsolete” with devices that no longer receive updates to the latest versions of operating systems. The latter, unless otherwise indicated, may continue to contact Apple Technical Support for any issues they may have.
This is the case with the Apple Watch Series 3. If you have one, you won’t be able to update it, but if your screen breaks, the Cupertino guys can replace it. Still, for the price a replacement will cost, you’re almost better off considering a new model.
