Apple unveils iPhone 13, adds new features to iPads, watches

Apple on Tuesday unveiled a new iPhone 13 and 13 mini with great screens to lure customers into 5G plans, announcing updates to its iPads and watches.

The Series 7 Smart Watch features a bigger display and faster charging. It will start at $399 and will be available later this autumn.

The company has updated its iPad mini with 5G connectivity and a new design that makes it more like the higher-end iPad Air and Pro models. Apple updated its base-model iPad with a new camera for working and learning from home. The base model iPad starts at $329, and the Mini starts at $499. Both will be available next week.

Apple’s shares were down 0.6 percent, with a slight decline in broader markets.

Apple introduced its iPhone 12 last year, with a facelift and as its first device with 5G connectivity. This year, analysts expect minor hardware upgrades and a greater focus on 5G.

Apple focused on fitness features like how the watch tracks dust protection for cycling workouts and hiking. The watch is paired with Apple Fitness+, a paid service that offers guided workouts with Apple trainers. The company added Pilates and skiing-oriented workouts, and a group workout function designed for users to work out together. The company has also given three months of free service with its watch devices.

Shares of exercise bike and online training company Peloton were down about 1.6 percent.

“It’s a service they provide where you literally need to have this product or you can’t use this service,” Bajarin said.
