Arenado, Cardinals minus ailing manager Marmol beat Pirates 6-2

Mitch Keller (0-1) conceded four runs in four innings with six hits and two walks.

Arenado singled out Paul Goldschmidt in third place to make the 2-all. Djong later made a comeback in the innings.

Corey Dickerson, making his Cardinals debut, sang the house arenado in fifth.

Arenado added an RBI double in the sixth.

Shoemaker, previously a popular player with the Cardinals, is in his first season on the St. Louis staff after four years with San Diego. He challenged a call at second base by umpire Dan Merzel, who had ruled Dylan Carlson in the first innings while trying to steal second. The shoemaker won the challenge as the call was turned.

Pirates manager Derek Shelton successfully challenged first base umpire Mike Muchalinsky’s decision that Roberto Perez was recalled to the bag after Kevin Newman dismissed McFarland in the sixth inning.
