How many times per year does an Arequipino undergo a medical examination? The answer is rarely found. According to Christian Gamero Rendón, the person in charge of the People’s Health of Arequipa, only 20% of the population go to the health establishment and are examined and avoid any disease.

This is why the Ministry of Health (MINSA) has launched a nationwide “Check Peru” campaign., It is aimed at providing preventive care to the population of all ages.
The campaign will run from May 15 to 21 in 247 establishments in the Arequipa region., Consultation and examination will be done to diagnose both physical and mental ailments.
The campaign was officially presented this Monday from the San Camilo market, in the fence, in the presence of Edward Cruz Sánchez, director of health services of Minasa.
What kind of care will be provided?
Cruz Sánchez said the conference seeks to improve citizens’ access to prevention and screening interventions for key diseases.
Services will be accessible to all stages of life: children, teens, adults and seniors.

Care will be provided in all establishments in both MINSA and Essalud through simple and quick examinations. This, so that a disease can be identified at an early stage and all treatment can be provided and not wait for progression or organs or its becoming more complicated.
What type of care will be provided during the operation?
Cruz Sanchez indicated that screening would be done for anemia, depression, pre-diabetes, diabetes and high blood pressure. Also major neoplasms such as breast cancer, cervical cancer, colon cancer and prostate cancer.
He said that all these services would be provided free of cost in 247 health establishments. During the service day provided by the establishment, the examinations shall be carried out daily.
The goal is to serve 47,000 users in Arequipa and more than 1 million people nationwide.
