FLORIDA – Clearwater Marine Aquarium’s bottlenose dolphin Nicolas picks France to beat Argentina in the final match of the 2022 World Cup on Telemundo this Sunday.
This is Nick’s second World Cup prediction. In 2018, he picked France correctly to beat Croatia.
The Dolphins have been predicting winners of sports matchups since 2017 and have a record of 16 out of 26.
Nicholas is presented with a choice in the course of his normal enrichment activities. For this prediction, animal care experts presented Nicholas with an image of the flags of France and Argentina outside the underwater observation windows in their habitat at the Ruth and Joe Stone Dolphin Complex.
The animal made its selection by touching the image of the French flag.
Nicolas is a rescued bottlenose dolphin who was found stranded with severe sunburn. Orphaned and unable to learn the necessary survival skills as a hatchling, he became a permanent resident at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium.
