In Marion County, Florida, a man was arrested on charges of indecent assault on a minor following a car accident involving a 15-year-old runaway. The incident occurred on September 11 at the intersection of Highway 40 and Highway 41 in Dunnellon.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation into 19-year-old Steven Thomas Matychak following the incident. The young woman, originally from Santa Rosa County, was reportedly picked up by Matychak and taken to Marion County. The victim stated that Matychak took her to his room where they performed several sexual acts.
However, an argument broke out between Matychak and his parents, which resulted in the victim being removed from the room along with his dog. While walking on the street, the victim suddenly woke up in the hospital after being hit by a car. Although he could not remember the events leading up to the accident, he expressed concern that Matychak may have played a role in the hit-and-run.
In an interview with investigators, Matychak stated that he was traveling on Highway 40 when the victim was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. He also mentioned that the victim’s dog was hit by another vehicle when he went to help her.
Matychak admitted to engaging in sexual activity with the victim even though he knew it was illegal. As a result, he was charged with indecent violence against a minor and interference with the custody of a minor.
