CLEVELAND ( Associated Press) — Christian Arroyo hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning and had three RBIs in his return from the COVID-19 list as the Boston Red Sox beat the Guardians 6-3 from Cleveland on Friday night .
Arroyo’s go-forward homer vanished from Brian Shaw (3-1) in left center, giving the Red Sox a 4-2 lead.
This paved the way for Boston to register its fifth win and reach nine games over .500, its best record of the season. The Red Sox is 17-4 in June and 30-12 from May 10.
Nick Pivetta (8-5) conceded two runs in seven innings, leading to nine sporadic hits. He had never started a game before against Cleveland.
The right-handed batsman scored four runs, could not walk and drew 8-1 in his last 10 with a 1.85 ERA.
Boston entered the ninth inning with a 6–2 lead, but close Tanner Hogak allowed an RBI single by rookie Steven Cowan before retiring to Emed Rosario and Jose Ramirez, with base loads.
For the Red Sox, Dominican Rafael Devers scored 4-2 and an RBI, Franchi Cordero, 2-0. Mexican Alex Verdugo with 5-2 RBI. Puerto Rican Christian Vazquez 4-1.
