The Hate Crime Task Force of the New York Police Department stated that on April 23, a 61-year-old Asian male was pushed to the ground and kicked several times in New York City.
The police said the victim, who did not want to be named, was kicked in the head several times and is now in critical condition.
The attack occurred on 3rd Ave & E. 125 St. in Harlem and was captured by video.
The man’s wife called him Yao Panma and told the New York Post that he was collecting canned food to help his family make ends meet.
“Please catch him as soon as possible and make him pay,” his 57-year-old wife Chen Baozhen told the New York Post. “I was scared. I cried,” she said. “I don’t know what to do. Why? Why are they doing this to my husband? Why do they do this? Suddenly. I didn’t expect this to happen.”
