The Astropad team, known to the vast majority above all for the Astropad Studio and Luna Display, has ventured into a new product. In the past it has worked closely with people in the art and design industries who use iPad for their daily work. The Astropad Darkboard has now emerged from this inspiration.
“We know creatives use iPad for their work because it’s powerful and versatile. But the iPad alone is often not very comfortable for the way most modern creatives work – on the go, on the couch or in bed. That’s why we created Darkboard.”
This is how the Astropad team reports in a press kit on the new Darkboard. The product was created to make drawing easier on the sofa, in bed and on the go. Compared to other, heavier artboards, the Darkboard weighs just 635 grams – even lighter than the packaging it comes in. The Darkboard case keeps the iPad and Apple Pencil in place, so you can take your workspace with you with peace of mind. A high-quality hard foam is supposed to cushion the arms and wrists and thus ensure hours of comfort during drawing sessions.
“Henry Dreyfus, the famous industrial designer, defines the optimal grip diameter as 32-38 mm. Darkboard’s thickness is 34mm, right in the sweet spot for maximum comfort. Darkboard is made from a molded EVA unibody – the same high-performance material used in professional sports equipment. It’s stiff enough to provide support and durability, while being light enough to be portable.”
At the same time, the charging connection of the iPad can still be used via corresponding cut-outs, so that the Apple tablet can be supplied with electricity during the drawing sessions. The camera can still be used. The Astropad Darkboard will be available from September 20, 2022 on the crowdfunding portal Kickstarter. Early birds can support the Darkboard for $79, which is a 20 percent discount off retail. Once the campaign has been activated, you will be automatically redirected to Kickstarter via the darkboard.com website.
