The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Ti will be the new flagship of the Ampere graphics lineup. This will be a step up from the existing RTX 3090 and will offer slightly better performance through faster GDDR6X memory chips. These will push the envelope of electricity higher than ever. ITHome has seen the first photos of the ASUS GeForce RTX 3090 Ti TUF gaming graphics card, a completely custom design for NVIDIA’s Ampere GPU.

The site does not mention any details of the card nor show it visually. The only thing we can see is the packaging which is pretty much the same as the current 3090 TUF gaming graphics card. In addition, there is no mention of PCIe Gen 5.0 (PCIe Gen 4.0 is mentioned), a feature that was considered a highlight of the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, although this may still be true for the Founders Edition model. Because it was only the power connector. That was supposed to be Gen 5 compliant and most custom models use non-FE power inputs.

A previous rumor also said that the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti graphics card would have a TGP of over 400W. This is 50W more than the current 3090 which means we could see faster clocks on the GPU and VRAM.

There is also a rumor about a brand new power connector that will come in the Microfit form factor but it is not going to look anything like the existing connector. The new 16-pin connector will be PCIe Gen 5.0 ready and provide some current stability for the next-gen protocol, which is expected to be introduced on the flagship card.

A major change for the NVIDIA RTX 3090 Ti will be the addition of a 2GB GDDR6X memory module. Running at 21 Gbps would require more power and more power would translate to higher temperatures. We’ve already seen how to get VRAM temperatures on a GeForce RTX 3090 graphics card and especially the module displayed on the back.

Having a denser capacity module would mean that NVIDIA could display all the modules on the front side of the PCB (12 modules in total), leaving the PCB and memory temperature slightly lower. The GeForce RTX 3090 Ti won’t be the only card to get these higher density modules as the rumor also mentions the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti to get the same 2GB module treatment. Having 21 Gbps memory chips would essentially give the card up to 1 TB/s of bandwidth. The graphics card is rumored for an unveiling at CES 2022 and will launch on January 27 (if things go according to plan).
