Auctions should move the transmission engineering and construction sector

The investments are valued at R$50 billion (nearly US$9.8 billion).

One of the biggest shortcomings in the energy sector today is the energy transmission infrastructure to withstand the connection to wind and solar farms under construction that will come online in 2030.

For this reason, four auctions were held to bid for a new transmission that connects these parks to the SIN (National Interconnected System), in June, July, October and December, taking care of the already scheduled fairs, either because of the importance of the transmission infrastructure or the opportunities that will generate investments in this area, from the EPE (Energy Research Company) valued at R$ 50 billion. With its sights set on this opportunity, SKIC Brasil foresees a very positive impact of the auctions on its activity and in the area of engineering and construction.

The Brazilian subsidiary of Sigdo Koppers Engineering and Construction, one of the leading engineering and construction companies in Latin America, SKIC started its activities in Brazil in 2016, with the installation of its first power transmission line projected in the country, and with So, it already has more than 2,000 km of lines he built The company will participate in this year’s auctions in partnership with companies that will compete for the concession of the transmission line, already defined with the EPC pre-contract for the construction of this infrastructure.

“The energy transmission line sector will be one of our priorities this year. Infrastructure is the missing step to take the 6,000 MW of renewable energy that the new park will generate to consumption centers. And we want to contribute our experience in this fundamental stage to the operation of wind farms”, says Robson Campos, general director of Brazil SKIC.

He pointed out that in addition to the installation of transmission lines and substations, SKIC also works in the construction of parks with renewable sources. The company recently signed a contract to build a 636 MWp (Megawatt peak) photovoltaic plant for Auren Energia in Minas Gerais. In addition to the plant, in this project SKIC will build a 230 kV transmission line, with an approximate length of 8.7 km, which will connect the future park to the National Grid.

According to a projection by the Electric Energy Commercialization Chamber (CCEE), between 2026 and 2028, 241 new photovoltaic plants and wind farms should be installed, increasing the need for electricity transmission lines.

“In order for all this energy to reach the consumers, it is necessary to hold the transmission lines and then build to connect the generation of new plants with the National Connected System (SIN), a priority for the security and availability of the Brazilian energy matrix. “You know, the fields.” “Provide the government should, by 2028, quadruple the flow of energy capacity generated in the region from the North to the South, reaching a capacity of about 32 GW. This is a big leap because, in 2021, the capacity was 7.5 GW, according to EPE data. And all this movement in the market matters for companies like SKIC Brasil, which can complete EPC engineering and construction lines,” he adds.
