Avalanche captain Gabe Landeskog returns after suspension, Jonas Johansson makes his season debut at the Florida Panthers

SUNRISE, Florida. Avalanche captain Gabe Landeskog will return to the squad Thursday night against the Florida Panthers after a two-game suspension for boarding Kirby Dah from Chicago at the season opener last week.

Colorado (1-2) kicks off goal kicks for Jonas Johansson, who will make his season debut. Darcy Kuamper will support him.

During his morning skateboarding at FLA Live Arena, Landeskog was on his familiar line, playing left flank with center Nathan McKinnon and right flank Mikko Rantanen.

In the absence of Landeskog, Colorado went 0-2.

“We have another level to climb as a team,” Landeskog said. “There are many things we can improve as a team. As a group, we just haven’t reached the required level of play. We end up playing a little behind. Obviously, this is what we need to fix and start better. “

Landeskog, 28, received his fourth ban since joining the league at the age of 18. It was painful to watch Avs play at the time.

“You feel helpless and you feel like you are letting your team down,” Landeskog said. “It doesn’t matter if you’re through injury, disqualification or something else, you always want to fight the guys. It is what it is. I’m back. And I’m excited. “

Landeskog declined to answer a question about the Daha hit, which occurred when the Blackhawks striker was on one knee and in a vulnerable position at the sideboards.

“It is what it is. I will save my opinion for another day,” Landeskog said.
