Avalanche Wants to See Alex Newhook, Others “Ramp Up” It in the Final Week of Preseason

The Avalanche relegated six players on Monday before taking on a relatively young and inexperienced lineup in Minnesota for a preseason game against Wilde.

AVS coach Jared Bednar said further steps would be taken after the third preseason game, and indicated that 2019 first-round draft pick Alex Newhook needed to play better to avoid a demotion to the American Hockey League’s Colorado Eagles. Is.

The Eagles open Preseason on Saturday.

The NewHooks scored Colorado’s only goal on Monday in a 3-1 loss in St. Paul, Minn.

Newhook, 20, is starting his first full professional season after joining AVS in March after his sophomore year at Boston College. “He hasn’t stood up to me in a big way yet,” Bednar said of Newhook. “I think we have some other guys who have played really well, and that’s cool, but he’s the one guy I’ve talked to about starting it. Just from the rookie camp, through this camp. Since then, he is getting better now. But he has started slow.”

Newhooks, the 16th overall pick in the 2019 draft, played in their second preseason game on Monday night. He made an assist and two shots against Wilde at the Ball Arena on Thursday but was minus-1.
