Barack Obama demands equal remuneration for the work of Hollywood screenwriters

the former president of the United States of America Barack Obama (2009-2017) has put himself in favor of a strike led by the Writers of the United States of America and knows that he will get “a fair share of the fruits of his labor”.

“As someone who supports the truth of the union and as someone who believes in storytelling and their craft, my hope is that they are compensated and that the importance of what they do will be reflected in any agreement that is reached,” he said. Obama in a virtual chat in which he explained his series “Work: What We Do All Day”.

Since May 2nd, writers have paralyzed the Hollywood industry, striking to demand better conditions from the Alliance of Film and Television Producers (AMPTP), fair payment of residuals from projects, control of artificial intelligence, among other demands.

Obama stated that he “understood” the great pressure of the students and the “flowing” companies felt from the partners because of “excess production”, but he emphasized that these companies “do not exist” without the presence of “writers who create stories about that matter.”

“My hope would be that in a time of great technological change, where there are many mega-corporations that are doing very well, they will have a creative plan that consumers love and that is exported around the world.” he showed

The former president is the presenter, interviewer and producer of “Work: What We Do All Day”, a project that tries to answer the meaning of work and questions like what makes good work? and what does it mean to be satisfied?

To find answers, Obama visited the homes and factories of people at all levels from industries such as transportation, technology, hospitals and custodians.

The services were directed by Caroline Suh and were inspired by the book “Working” (1974), by American historian Studs Terkel, on Obama.

The four-part project is now available on Netflix and belongs to the production company Higher Ground, founded in 2018 by former president and former first lady Michelle Obama.
