The movement of Barragan’s dove in the Paseo Alcalde is a true urban sculpture, and not an insensitive smallness. With its 45 meters high, it is impressive and can be seen from a distance. I believe the power of the work transcends the moment of its creation and the attachment to the place to which it was intended.
There have always been transplants and implants of architecture, from the French mansions on Avenida Vallarta, to the “chalets” of the American colony, today’s “Tapatío” heritage, and endless examples showing the history of architecture. Much more so in a mestizo country.
The new Granata bermeja tower, in the center of Guadalajara, refers us to the Spanish-Islamic and Mediterranean heritage that is being forgotten or diminished in this region. Surely the architect would have liked to see it in the center of his city. One thing he did not then invite to take part in his construction; but it would leave him worse. More than a beautiful tribute to the maestro Luis Barragán, so many examples.
It is not easy to create symbols, let alone legitimize them. Designating the author directly will most likely solve this problem. Challenges are an option, but often end in controversy. What is more sacred than a refreshing work? Bonum urged the City Council to set it up. Also to continue, with the new section of the Paseo Alcalde, and with this square, the work of the previous administration, which he also looks after as his own. That is the mark of the new urban plan.
Do they cost money? No, but the majority of the dividends received by the city of Barragania will leave the work. The more we work, the more we amortize; will be obtained. Let the spears resound all around, and continue gradually to recover the center. Guadalajara today has a new emblem, which is ours. I think we will use Guadalajara sooner rather than later, if not now.
Another symbol has been recovered
The La Normal Bridge, demolished due to the negligence of the builders of Line 3 in 2015, has recently recovered. The matter was almost entirely hidden. Two gospels for our city.
