Barty finishes year as WTA’s No. 1 for third consecutive time

scheduled tribe. Petersburg, Fla. (NWN) – Wimbledon champion Ash Barty has topped the WTA singles rankings for a third consecutive season, while Katerina Sinyakova has topped the doubles rankings for the second time.

Australia’s Barty, 25, is the only woman to have topped the tennis rankings for three consecutive years at the end of the year, along with Serena Williams, Steffi Graf, Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert.

This week is Barty’s 95th consecutive WTA and 102nd overall.

Barty’s title at the All England Club in July was her second title at a Grand Slam tournament. She also won the 2019 French Open and soon after reached No. 1 for the first time in June of the same year.

Siniakova wins the title at the end of the season’s WTA Finals with doubles partner Barbora Krejcikova in Guadalajara, Mexico, on Wednesday. The 25-year-old Siniakova from the Czech Republic ended 2018 as co-no. 1 in a duet with Krzyszkova.

They won the French Open and a gold medal simultaneously at the Tokyo Olympics, which was part of Siniakova’s total of five doubles titles in 2021.

Barty also took five titles, leading 42-8. She last competed at the US Open in September and announced in October that she was done for the year and would not enter the WTA Finals.
