Dan Walker has left his role as presenter of BBC Breakfast to join Channel 5.
Dan took to Twitter to announce the news of his departure after a 13-year career at the BBC.
However, the 45-year-old said that despite taking the difficult decision, it was an offer he could not refuse.
Appearing in a video on Twitter shared by Channel 5 News, he told viewers: “Hello, it’s Dan here. I have a little news for you. Over the next few weeks, I’m going to leave BBC Breakfast.” Am and 5 news and going to channel 5.
“I’m really excited but it’s also been a big decision for me because I love BBC Breakfast, I love working with Sally [Nugent] And I love the team there.
“But Channel 5 came with big ambitions, big plans and I don’t think opportunities like this come very often and I can’t wait.
“I have had the incredible privilege of working on some of the most prestigious programs over the years at the BBC and elsewhere and what I love about this deal is that I get to present not only news, but a whole lot more. The series also gets a host of programs across the channel.
“And it is an honor to step into the shoes of Sean Williams. I know how popular she is with both the team and the audience, so all I can say is that I do my best to maintain her incredibly high standards.” I will try my best
“Thanks for watching and I’ll see you on a TV screen somewhere soon.”
Dan joined the BBC’s Football Focus in 2009, which he hosted until 2021, when he decided to step down before Alex Scott took over.
He has been presenting BBC Breakfast since 2016 and has also hosted the show on BBC Radio 5 Live and reported for Match of the Day.
His departure comes just seven months after co-star Louise Minchin stepped out on a red couch.
