Lake Forest, Ill. (NWN) — The Chicago Bears will once again be without star linebacker Khalil Mack, though he could be David Montgomery available during Monday night’s visit to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Bears denied Mack suffered a leg injury on Saturday. The three-time All-Pro had one of his best starts with six sacks in the first seven games. Mack was sidelined last week for the first time since 2018, when the Bears conceded 467 yards in a 33-22 loss to San Francisco – their highest total in seven years.
Coach Matt Nagy said Montgomery would have a “really good chance” when the Bears (3-5) meet the Steelers (4-3).
Montgomery has missed the last four games with a knee sprain and was named to return from an injured reserve this week. He suffered an injury late in the Bears’ win over Detroit on October 3.
“At the beginning of the week, we wanted to see what he was going to look like?” Negi said. “You have no idea when he’s out there. I think for all intents and purposes, he looks really cool.”
Rookie Khaleel Herbert has done well in Montgomery’s absence. The sixth-round draft pick includes all but seven of his 351 yards in the last four games.
