Bella Hadid has been candid about her decision to quit drinking.
“I drank my share of alcohol,” the supermodel told InStyle magazine in an article published Friday. “I loved alcohol and it got to the point where even I started canceling parties when I felt like I couldn’t control myself.”
Hadid, who has promoted Kin Euphorics, the soft drink brand she co-founded, explained why she doesn’t feel like drinking.
“I know how it will affect me at 3 am, when I wake up with terrible anxiety, thinking about one thing that I said five years ago when I graduated from high school,” she said. “There’s just an endless effect of essentially pain and stress from those few drinks that didn’t really do much, you know?”
Hadid was arrested for drunk driving in 2014 when she was 17 years old.
According to her mom, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills actress Yolanda Hadid, the court suspended the then-high school student’s license for a year, put her on six months’ probation, and ordered her to do 25 hours of community service and attend 20 hours of Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.
Yolanda Hadid found out about her daughter’s arrest on a reality TV episode and wrote about it.
“My what if button went from zero to 10 in a split second because my biggest fear is losing any of my kids in a car crash like I lost my father when I was just seven,” Hadid wrote at the time. blog for Bravo. “I decided to take her phone away, make her pay her lawyer bills from my savings, and we sold her a car.”
