Beres HR leads UCLA 25-22 win over Beavers in 10th

Scottsdale, Ariz. ( Associated Press) — Tommy Beres hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the 10th inning on Saturday to give third seed UCLA a 25-22 win over second-seeded Oregon State in the Pac-12 tournament. ,

The Bruins’ victory, scoring nine runs in the bottom of the ninth to force an extra innings, later forced a second game between the teams at nearly 100 degrees night.

The winner takes on Stanford in Sunday’s championship game of the first Pac-12 tournament.

Despite losing a 21–12 lead, Oregon State (43–14) returned in the 10th inning to regain the lead on Justin Boyd’s sixth hit, a single-game record for the Beavers.

But UCLA (38-21) couldn’t be slowed down as Michael Curiel scored a single, Ethan Gourson did a double, and Kyle Caros was driven for a deliberate base load. Ryan Brown worked home tying before the Beres launched the game-winner over the wall of left field.

UCLA scored nine runs in the ninth inning on four hits, three walks, one hit batsman, and one error. Curiel, Beres and Kenny Oyama scored a run each.

Beres scored seven, Oyama had five hits and five RBIs and Curiel, Gourson and Karos all had four. Gourson scored five times. UCLA ended with 25 hits and 12 walks. Three batsmen were hit by a pitch and the Bruins left 17 runners on base. By the 10th, UCLA’s only extra-base hits were three doubles.

Garrett Forrester scored six runs with a pair of three of his hits for the Beavers, Gavin Logan had five hits and five RBIs. Oregon State had 28 hits, nine of them doubles, six walks received and 14 dropped on base. Boyd scored four runs.
