New Delhi, May 18 Bhutanese Prime Minister Lotay Tshering expressed the state’s support for Cuba’s cause to end the United States economic, commercial and financial blockade, diplomatic sources said here today.
In a cordial meeting with Cuban Ambassador to Timbuktu Alejandro Simancas, resident in India and concurrently in Bhutan and Nepal, the Bhutanese chief of executive highlighted the good relations between the two countries.
During the meeting, the two exchanged views on dialogue and cooperation within the framework of the Cuban Presidency of the G77 + China and in multilateral fora.
Tshering recalled the historic moment of former King Jigme Singye Wangchuck’s visit to Havana during the Sixth Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in 1979 and his meeting with Fidel Castro, the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution.
The meeting also discussed the Asian country’s support to the Caribbean nation in the health sector and exploring new ways to expand bilateral cooperation.
For his part, the Cuban ambassador thanked the head of government for his congratulatory message to Miguel Díaz-Canel for his re-election as President of Cuba.
Thereafter, Seemankas met Foreign Minister Tandi Dorjee, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Loknath Sharma and Health Minister Dechen Wangmo, with whom he discussed aspects of bilateral cooperation and dialogue.
The Cuban diplomat also participated in a friendly meeting with a group of Bhutanese doctors graduating in Cuba, who showed their feelings of gratitude and affection and expressed their experiences on the island.
