Bicycle thief caught and beaten by neighbors in Guantanamo

Neighbors in the city of Guantanamo in Cuba caught and beat an alleged thief who tried to steal a bicycle in broad daylight.

Photos circulating on social media showed dozens of people taking to the streets to catch the man, who was later handed over to the police.

An Internet user identified as Clara Odalis Cardosa Cerejo said the robbery happened at noon on Cuartel street between Marmol and Varona streets.

“He was taking a bicycle, he entered the corridor that leads down to an inner house, they caught him red handed and he started running, they took him three blocks away and held him until the police arrived. returned to the scene,” he explained.

It adds that, however, the general opinion among the population is that impunity will prevail. “At the moment they are releasing him,” eyewitnesses said.

Internet user questions how long “robbery, violence, murders will be allowed” in a country where peace has been lost.

In this regard, they point out that parents of teenage children, families in general, are no longer calm, they do not have the confidence to be on the street in broad daylight.

Last March, residents of the same town in Cuba’s eastern province caught another cell phone thief after he took a phone from a woman.

An Internet user identified as Tania Isabel Benitez on Facebook published photographs of the incident. “Almost a kid snatching another phone. He almost just snatched a neighbor’s phone,” he said.

In the pictures, two men can be seen holding the alleged perpetrator of the robbery and in fact, he appears to be a minor.

Dozens of other complaints speak of police laxity in the rising number of robberies. A few days ago, farmers in Guantanamo criticized the lack of action by the police force to stop butchers and thieves who break into their homes to slaughter their animals and steal their crops.
