Gadkari said the government was promoting ethanol produced from crop residues instead of petrol and diesel. They are trying to ensure that within a year the price of electric cars will be equal to the price of petrol cars in the country. We will save money on fossil fuels. At the same time, Gadkari said that waterways are a cheaper means of transportation for us than roads and it is going to come in a big way.

Tata Nexon EV is currently the cheapest electric car in the country from Tata Motors in the electric four vehicle segment. Prices range from Rs 14.79 lakh to Rs 19.24 lakh. The lower range variant offers a driving range of 312 km on a single charge and the long range variant up to 437 km. Also, Hyundai Kona electric SUV offers driving range up to 452 km on a single charge. Prices range from Rs 23.84 lakh to Rs 24.03 lakh. At the same time, the MG ZS EV is priced between Rs 22.00 and Rs 25.88 lakh. Its range is up to 461 km.

At a conference in Pune, Gadkari said the government would widely promote the use of alternative fuels and electric vehicles. Speaking on the occasion, he said that they will soon launch an electric tractor and an electric truck. He said the popularity of electric vehicles will increase manifold. Gadkari said Bajaj, TVS and Hero have introduced electric bikes and electric rickshaws are also on the road. He said that by 2025, the total turnover of the automobile industry will reach around Rs 1.5 trillion from the current Rs 6.5 trillion.
