‘Big Short’ author meets Sam Bankman-Fried on house arrest

The saga of Sam Bankman-Fried and the collapse of his cryptocurrency firm FTX could soon be the subject of a book by the author of “The Big Short” and “Moneyball.”

Author Michael Lewis met with Bankman-Fried for “several hours” after the latter was placed under house arrest at her parents’ home in Palo Alto, The New York Post reported Tuesday.

An attorney and spokesperson for Bankman-Fried did not immediately respond to Insider’s requests for comment; Nor did Lewis have a representative.

Bankman-Fried faced multiple fraud-related charges following the implosion of FTX, of which she is the founder and former CEO, and was extradited from the Bahamas to the United States last week.

He was released from New York federal court on December 22 on $250 million bail. the amount has not been paid; However, along with other types of guarantees, she is insured by the home of her parents where she is living.

Lewis is the author of popular books such as “The Big Short,” which chronicles how the housing bubble led to the financial crisis of the late 2000s. He is also the author of “Moneyball,” which describes how Billy Beane, general manager of the Oakland A’s, used analysis to compile a list of the best players.

Both became Oscar-nominated films in 2015 and 2011, respectively. “The Big Short” won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay.

This isn’t the first time Lewis has met Bankman-Fried. In November, the Hollywood trade The Ankler reported that Lewis had been interviewing Bankman-Fried for six months.

Deadline reported last month that Apple was closing a deal for the rights to Lewis’ final book on the collapse of FTX and Bankman-Fried, with plans to make it into a film.
