Bishop Alemani grieves Taft at the opening of the tournament in Maranatha

Freshman basketball coach Mike Dulaney of Bishop Alemany provoked a major upset on Tuesday in the first round of the Maranatha tournament.

The Warriors (4-1) rallied after an 11-point break to beat Taft’s No. 9, 74-65. Mika Ballju scored 24 points and Nico Ponce added 22 points. A.J. Johnson topped Taft (4-1) with 18 points. Bishop Alemanius took over the administration in the fourth quarter.

Etivanda 76, Silverado 44: The Eagles have advanced to IE Classic and will meet with Temecula Valley on Thursday. Jacob Barcelo topped Etivanda with 17 points.

Moorpark 80, Pilibos 68: Lucas Fenske scored 32 points for Moorpark and earned seven triples. Freshman Anto Balyan scored 34 points for Pilibos.

Chaminade 58, Westlake 48: Kaidan Elsokari has 16 points for Westlake.

West Ranch 76, Canyon Country Canyon 64: West Ranch kicked off the Foothill League with a win. It was preparation for Wednesday’s away game in the Sierra Canyon.

Saugus 66, Valencia 52: Davis White scored 16 points and Christian Manzano added 15 points.

Shalkhevet 68, San Gabriel Academy 57: The Firehawks won their fourth game in a row after starting 1-3. Avi Halpert scored 29 points, Netan Sellam added 21 points.

Treasure 57, Edison 54: Kyle Gleason finished with 21 points for Tesoro 5-0.

Oak Park 64, Bakersfield Centennial 37: Isaiah Sherrard led the Eagles with 14 points, 14 rebounds and seven blocks.

Observation deck 78, Ventura 54: Giovanni Gori scored 37 points for Viewpoint.

Sierra Canyon 73, Westlake 45: McKenley Randolph has 30 points for the Sierra Canyon.
