BJP candidate from Malda, West Bengal, Gopal Chandra Saha was shot dead by some unknown people. He was attacked when he was campaigning on Sunday (April 18, 2021). He was rushed to the hospital in a hurry. At night, Gopal Chandra Saha was campaigning in Shahpur area of Malda, when he was attacked by taking advantage of the darkness. The bullet hit his neck.

The attackers were more than one in number, yet to be identified. Shortly before the attack, Saha attended a booth level meeting. The doctors of Malda Medical College and Hospital, who are treating him, have said that the condition of the BJP candidate is now stable. After the incident, there is tension in the area. Reacting to the incident, BJP leader and Union Minister Debashree Chaudhary said that this level of political violence in Bengal points towards the culture of political violence in the state. TMC candidate from Malda Krishnendu Narayan Chaudhary said that his party had no hand in the incident and demanded action against the culprits. In February 2021, Minister Zakir Hussain was injured in a bomb attack in neighboring Murshidabad.
Angry BJP supporters blocked the Jantu fold after this incident and staged a sit-in there. Inspector Incharge Heerak Vishwas was sent with heavy police force to remove the protesters. Police are investigating CCTV footage so that the killers can be traced. Gopal Chandra Saha was sitting in his car at the time of the attack. More than 100 BJP workers have already been killed in West Bengal.
