Eli Roth is back with Black Friday, his new horror film
Director and screenwriter Eli Roth returns to the genre that brought him so much success, horror (of course), and presents what is the first Black Friday or Thanksgiving poster in his country of origin. As the title and the image clearly suggest, the design is directly inspired by the American holiday of Thanksgiving, hence the pilgrim’s costume of the scary man in black with an axe. The story takes place in Pymouth, Massachusetts, a town associated with the history of the country because it was the place where the event was held for the first time, with a mysterious killer who began to carry out his atrocities based on the famous celebration .
The release date is November 17, in theaters only. The title cast includes Rick Hoffman (Suits, Hostel), Gina Gershon (Killer Joe, Burning Bonds), Milo Manheim (Road to Bethlehem, School Spirits), Addison Rae (Someone Like Him) and the well-known Patrick Dempsey (Enchanted: The Story of Giselle, Transformers: Dark of the Moon) due to his participation in Grey’s Anatomy as Dr. Derek Shepherd (from 2005 to 2021).
It all started with a short film
The film was born from a double session of Grindhouse by Quentin Tarantino and Robert RodrÃguez, especially in one of the fake trailers made for it. For the 2007 premiere, Eli Roth filmed the short / trailer titled, precisely, Thanksgiving, which he now based on the production of the film he wrote with Jeff Rendell, as he did before.
This is not the first film born from a short film, we can talk about the character of Machete born in the same situation in this project or also in Inside the Wood by Sam Raimi. This is the germ of the Evil Dead saga, Ellen Sandweiss and, of course, Bruce Campbell are already in the footage. Many more that can be mentioned are THX 1138, ¡Salta!, 12 Monos, Distrito 9 and many more.
