Overwatch 2’s PvE mode has been cancelled, Blizzard’s hero shooter is going to have new story missions coming over the next few months. To that should be added new maps, heroes and more.
Overwatch 2 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox and Nintendo Switch changes—for the worse—as Blizzard cancels its PvE. The sequel after Overwatch that sold this flagship mode now announces that the hero shooter will no longer have it.
During a recent live where he announced new details of the game on his roadmap for upcoming content, it was revealed that Hero Mode has been canceled and a progression system and the features that come with it have already been worked on. Only work is being done.
That being said, and while the structure is already out, new story missions – in the more familiar form of this PVE – are coming to Overwatch 2 Season 6.
In the meantime and during Seasons 5, 6 and 7 Blizzard Hero Shooter is going to add new permanent and limited events, maps, heroes (with a new support hero in the 6th and another tank in the 7th).
Add to that work for Roadhog and Sombra in Overwatch 2 Season 7, new cinematics, and more; It won’t be all but one thing though.
Other modes will include the Creator’s Workshop in Season 5, the Story Codex in Season 7 along with a Shooting Range and Progression System in Season 6; among other things. this is the roadmap complete below.

Now, Blizzard has also confirmed why these PvE components are not coming. They commented via GameSpot that the game’s director Aaron Keller and executive producer Jared Neuss explained the reason for the decision.
Apparently, the team had decided to incorporate these elements in a different direction, now with a series of additions all focused on the game’s story.
According to Keller and Neuss, this decision was made for the good of the game and its live multiplayer component. Whether or not this is true will be judged by how detailed the next seasons come to be, but Blizzard and Team 4 just announced an experience that’s no longer going to be real.

You can read the full interview in the middle, but when asked why they’ve turned in the other direction, Aaron Keller said: “I guess I’d describe it a little differently:
We’re doing something the team set out to do, but not everything that was talked about at BlizzCon 2019. So the real focus is on story missions and that experience, as opposed to the more open hero mode.
In essence, they are intended to fulfill part of the experience shown through missions and story content; But not all the modes shown and promised in 2019.
Right now, the only thing players are certain about is that Blizzard has canceled Overwatch 2’s PvE mode and is going to add story missions instead. when and how? It will be seen.
