Braves, Phillies to go face to face with division in balance

The Atlanta Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies are in an old-fashioned battle for the NL East title, with a wild card unlikely second-place finish.

They will face each other in the three-match series starting Tuesday.

Atlanta leads the division by 2 1/2 games, which means the Phillies will need to take at least two of the two in Georgia this week to stand a greater chance. Philadelphia was able to hang on to the race with five straight victories, but the Phillies eventually lost to the last-place Pittsburgh team on Sunday.

Philadelphia ace Jack Wheeler is expected to start against Atlanta’s Charlie Morton on Tuesday night.

Enjoy this series, as there aren’t many one-on-one matchups left between teams chasing post-season spots. The New York Yankees move to Toronto as they both chase an American League wild card, but then Toronto face Baltimore and the Yankees take on a Tampa Bay team that has already won the AL East.

Boston, who is also in the wild card mix, plays Baltimore and Washington.

Seattle hosts Oakland, and each of those teams still has a shot in the postseason, but then the Mariners face the Angels and the Oakland takes on the Astros – Houston has already secured the AL West by then. would have taken

In the National League, the Giants (102–54) and the Dodgers (100–56) continue to press for the NL West title – as they try to avoid wild cards and the single-elimination matchups that will likely take place against St. . Louis. But San Francisco and Los Angeles have ended their season series. Instead, the Giants face the Diamondbacks and Padres, and the Dodgers face the Padres and the NL Central Champion Brewers.

Once the Braves and the Phillies play each other, Atlanta faces the Mets and the Philadelphia Marlins.

In other words, Bhi-Rann will have his say in who makes it to the playoffs.

St. Louis has won 16 games in a row, but that would not be enough to hold Milwaukee in the NL Central. The Brewers wrapped up the division with an 8-4 win over the Mets on Sunday.
