Britney Spears responded to her father’s demands to pay his legal fees

In response to her father’s demands that she pay his legal fees related to her custody battle, Britney Spears’ attorneys filed court papers late Tuesday night detailing extensive allegations of his financial misconduct while he was her guardian.

The statement alleges that the pop star’s father, Jamie Spears, has raised more than $6 million over 13 years managing his daughter’s now-dissolute custodianship, “despite portraying himself as ‘volunteering’ for the role.”

The documents were filed ahead of Wednesday’s hearing to discuss fees incurred by the singer’s father while his daughter fought to end a lawsuit that severely curtailed her personal and financial freedom.

Her lawyers also said that her father had unreasonably charged her with legal fees related to an injunction issued against him following a physical altercation he had with one of her underage sons.

According to her legal team, the legal fees he received during his guardianship total more than $30 million. That staggering sum, the statement said, went towards “large payments for apparently small cases, exorbitant fees for work questionable or useless to Ms. Spears, and great duplication in work performed.”

The singer’s legal team also alleges that Jamie Spears used his custody proceeds to try and become a culinary specialist.

“After extracting these funds, he used them for his own purposes and to expand his horizons, including, among other things, to try to recreate his career as a chef by launching a TV show called “Cook Cruzin and Chaos with James Spears,” the report says. says in the document.

He also made unexplained deals with his daughter’s property in Louisiana, spending $1.5 million to maintain the property, more than double the value of the house, according to the documents. More than $178,000 of that went to a Louisiana communications firm run by Jamie Watson, who is married to his other daughter, Jamie Lynn Spears.

Britney Spears and Jamie Lynn Spears, her younger sister, have been publicly feuding in recent days amid the latter’s press tour over her new memoir, Things I Should Have Said. Britney Spears accused her sister of trying to “sell the book at my expense”.

Lawyers for Jamie Spears did not immediately respond to HuffPost’s request for comment.
