Britney Spears is “learning to feel beautiful again” after her father, Jamie Spears, “ruined” her confidence.
The “Piece of Me” artist, who was under a mentorship with her father for 13 years before disbanding in November 2021, took to Instagram on Tuesday to share a photo of herself as a young teen. In the post’s caption, she wrote that the age of 13 was the only time in her life when she felt “a little prettier”.
“I think my rebellious days were due to the fact that I always had to be perfect and beautiful,” she said. “Then I went to extremes and got wild and mischievous. But in those rebellious days I honestly still felt hot as an F.”
Spears, who is expecting a child with fiancé Sam Asghari, shared that one of the things that “hurt” her the most during her guardianship was “being told I was fat and never enough. was not.”
“My dad always made me feel like I had to try… try… try!!! big time!!! He ruined the deepest seed of my existence… the seed that made me beautiful Made me feel when I was 13…my confidence…my swag…my inner dialogue…and yes my sex life too…all completely ruined,” Crossroad Star shared. “It made me feel ugly… so was I.”
“The moment the conservatism ended,” Spears continued, when she began to feel “good” about herself again.
“I stopped working so hard and yes I entered a whole new world!!! I felt beautiful… so was I,” she wrote. “I can feel that way but there will always be psychological damage from my dad and every single f***ing person.”
In a follow-up post, the singer also shared a poem with her followers that began with the line, “How would it feel to feel beautiful when I kiss you?”
This isn’t the only time Spears — who has dealt with her fair share of body shaming from the media — has spoken out about the pressure she put on her body during her guardianship. In a March Instagram post, she said her father regularly called her “fat” and told her that “being a heavy girl on stage was not fun.”
