Broncos Mailbag: Drew Locke or Teddy Bridgewater – Who Wins More Games This Year?

Denver Post Broncos writer Ryan O’Halloran posts his Broncos mailbag from time to time during the off-season. Submit questions to Ryan here.

Ryan, let’s make future predictions. Who wins the most games for the Broncos at quarterback: Teddy Bridgewater, Drew Locke or Brett Rapian? Bonus: Over-under on 13 wins with Aaron Rodgers?

— Miles, Parker

Broncos: Most wins this year for Locke, but Bridgewater will also win at least two games this year as a starter.

Predicted Wins If They Get Rodgers Before Week 1: When the schedule came out in May, I predicted a 15-2 record with the AR 12 under control.

Do you think the Broncos are entering the season? This is a top-class defense with insane offensive weapons and at least one mid-tier quarterback. We’ve done well with similar tools in the past (2015). Is this a dark-horse Super Bowl contender or am I just smoking that offseason optimism?

– Danny N., Denvero

The Broncos are being rated properly – the middle-of-the-pack NFL team.

The quarterback position is so much more than an unknown, you can’t just say, “Well, they have a playoff-ready roster outside of quarterbacks.” Well, that’s all. The 2015 Broncos season is a pro football exception.

To your point, what does mid-tier quarterback play look like? Touchdown-to-interception ratio 2-to-1? One guy grabs the job and starts all 17 games? I agree that this defense has top-class capability and that offensive weapons should invite optimism. But I don’t see him as a playoff contender until the Broncos have had a chance to play quarterback consistently.
