Broncos Mailbag: Was the Teddy Bridgewater Trade a Steal for Denver?

Denver Post Broncos writer Ryan O’Halloran posts his Broncos mailbag from time to time during the season. Submit questions to Ryan here.

If it appears that right guard Graham Glasgow needs an extended leave, do you think Denver should look for additional offensive line assist? The running game against Jacksonville and Teddy Bridgewater never quite got into the rhythm I think many would have expected against the Jacksonville defense.

– Steve, Forks, Wash.

Glasgow missed the Jacksonville game (illness/irregular heartbeat) and coach Vic Fangio later said the team was “quite confident” that he would be available against the New York Jets on Sunday. Second year player Netane Muti made it to Glasgow and I booked him for a sack, a quarterback knockdown and a “bad” run block.

In order to scour the league for replacement options, teams stack their practice squads with additional linemen as it is very difficult to ascertain whether the depth is reduced. The Broncos now have what they will continue to work with.

Regarding the Chiefs and Teddy Bridgewater, don’t you think the key to keeping the Broncos on the field for as long as possible will be Teddy’s ability? The Broncos were on the field for 35 minutes during the first game against the Giants. Do this against the chiefs and yes, you have a chance.

– Larry Woldenberg, Sydney, Australia

Hey Larry, thanks for reading from Down Under. The Broncos lead the NFL in possession time (37 minutes), more than two minutes more than any other team.

In theory, staying away from Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes & Co. is a good course for beating Kansas City, but the Broncos’ offense needs to be more efficient in games and down first because thirds and longer positions are to be in any way. Plays in defense.

What has been the biggest difference between Teddy Bridgewater’s failure last season at Carolina and his early success this season with Denver?
