Cabrera leads Tigres to a 4-2 win over the Orioles

DETROIT ( Associated Press) — Miguel Cabrera doubled and homered to help the flagging Detroit Tigers beat the Baltimore Orioles 4-2 on Friday.

Fellow Venezuelan Eduardo Rodriguez (1-2) pitched 6 2/3 shutout innings, allowing five hits and walking four in Detroit’s second win in 11 games.

The Orioles loaded the bases in each of the last three innings.

Cabrera put the Tigers ahead with an RBI double in the third. It was the double 602 in the career of the Venezuelan, who left Barry Bonds behind and was alone in 17th place in the history of the majors.

The veteran was loudly cheered by fans at Comerica Park.

His 504th home run came in the sixth inning to make it 2-0. The hit put him 27th on the home run list, tied with Eddie Murray, and allowed him to reach 1,123 extra-base hits, breaking his tie with Manny Ramirez for 17th place.

Two batters later, Jonathan Schoop singled and scored on Willi Castro’s double before Spencer Torkelson made it 4-0 with an RBI single.

Jordan Lyles (2-3) took the loss, allowing four runs in a four-run, six-hit, three-walk stint in 5 2/3 innings.

For the Orioles, Venezuelans Anthony Santander, 5-1 with one run scored and one produced, Robinson Chirinos, 2-0 and Rougned Odor, 4-1; and Dominican Jorge Mateo, 4-1.

For the Tigres, the Venezuelan Miguel Cabrera, 4-2 with a run scored and 2 RBIs; and Puerto Ricans Willi Castro, 3-1 with one run scored and one produced, and Javier Baez, 4-0 with one run scored.
