The Republican Party’s work on drafting a new constitution is not convincing citizens. At the same time, President Gabriel Boric expressed his approval.
A new release of Cadem poll results came in negative for the Republican Party. Firstly, because his most famous character, José Antonio Kast has lost its positive image, also because the Constitutional Council, which is working on a new constitution, was not convincing with its decisions.
23% of respondents said they would vote for the new constitutional text, which will be put to a referendum in December. This figure represents a decrease of seven points compared to the previous consultation and is in line with the 57% who would vote against the proposal.
Of the motion’s recent rejects, 69% are determined to do so and only 9% could change their mind in the remaining months until the vote.
The most valued changes are: the state must guarantee security (97%); free kindergarten (93%); Freedom of choice in education, health and pension (93%) as well as environmental protection and animal welfare (both at 92%). The statements that receive the least support are that national assets for public use can be subject to a concession (45%), the 5% threshold for access to parliamentary representation (54%) and that cueca and rodeo are the national dance and sports ( 59%).
Kast continues to decline and Matthei remains unchanged
In parallel with the consultation on the new Constitution, we note the decline in the positive image of José Antonio Kast, who received 43% approval, a decrease of nine percentage points compared to the last consultation.
Evelyn Matthei is the politician with the best numbers with 67% (-4), followed by Michelle Bachelet, Germán Codina, Claudio Orrego and Rodolfo Carter with 58% each.
Meanwhile, President Boric’s approval rating improves by three points and stands at 31% after seven weeks of stability. 64% reject this.
