Get started and make plans
During an interview on LA PATRIA Radio’s El Informativo del Mediodía the patriarch spoke of his projection in the position:
– You. What are your challenges as Vice-Rector of the Caldas, Magdalena Centro Campus?
Let us make the most of this space for innovation and higher education to give a boost to this sector. It seems important to me that we provide opportunities for all families and educational communities, alongside private business, community social and environmental initiatives.
– Will the students be able to avail any subsidy?
We signed an agreement with the Mayor’s Office of La Dorada together with the Governor’s Office of La Dorada to locate two circular knowledge routes between La Dorada and Guarinocito. Many students who live in La Dorada, Norcacia or Puerto Salgar can take advantage of this circular route, it brings them to the headquarters and returns them at the scheduled time. In addition, there is a gasoline subsidy for students traveling by motorcycle.
, What about the football field?
We have another agreement with the Mayor’s Office of La Dorada for the improvement of an area that belongs to the community. The aim is to manage it so that it can be used by the residents of Guarinocito and the students of the university.
– Will there be university housing?
Together with the municipalities of Samana, Marquetalia, Norcassia, Pennsylvania, Marulanda and Victoria, we are going to launch a project to give something much here, where each of these municipalities will be built a house. The idea is that they serve as a university residence for young people who want to have their training process here.
– What is your strategy for maintaining the quality of U. de Caldas in the Manizales campus?
It is in the interest of our Rector, Fabio Hernando Arias, that this academic quality is not only maintained but strengthened and improved through qualified teachers. These professors will be selected by our Academic Vice-Rectorate and will be able to reinforce that selection. This is a priority for us.
by time
– How many students did you start with?
We are starting with around 400 students, we don’t have exact numbers yet. Not everyone will have classes at the same time, their schedules vary in the mornings, afternoons and evenings, or on weekends. Once the new programs start and the infrastructure is estimated, we want to expand to 600 or even a thousand students.
– Will they have virtual races?
All races will be head-to-head. However, later on, the university plans to expand the possibilities of virtual programmes.
– What else can the Caldas Innovation Center be used for?
Strengthening this innovation is a priority for us, as it is what allows us to connect academia with reality. Here we have this active space, rooms for creativity, innovation with the Chamber of Commerce. Similarly, we have a very valuable project with Czech on renewable energy. We want to leverage this space in a multipurpose manner by bringing together innovation, research, entrepreneurship and educational initiatives.
