California pair wins gold medal in beach volleyball at Tokyo Games

April Ross finally received her gold medal at Shiokase Park in Tokyo on Thursday night.

With partner Alix Klineman, Ross dominated fifth seed Mariafe Artacho del Soler of Australia and Talika Clancy of Australia 21-15, 21-16 to win the beach volleyball title at the Tokyo Games.

Ross, 39, is a three-time medalist, winning gold, silver and bronze.

She took a chance in 2017 to welcome Klineman, a four-time Stanford All-American, to the beach. The 6-foot-5 Klineman honed his skills in the sand to dominate the net.
