Call nothing (1): YouTuber takes a dig at Carl Pei on Twitter

Marques Brownlee, a tech YouTuber who goes by MKBHD, uploaded a video on Tuesday showing his hands-on effects of the upcoming Nothing Phone (1).

At the end of the video, Brownlee takes a jibe at Carl Pei for the OnePlus co-founded by Pei. Brownlee talked about how smartphone companies try something different to build a loyal fanbase.

“…Maybe if the first run was successful enough, they could make a slightly more widely attractive, slightly better phone that sells more,” Brownlee said in the video. They can make a more widely attractive phone that sells even more, and then even more widely attractive and even more, unless you’ve made a very widely attractive phone that sells best. But it feels like it has left your core fan base. Know you?”

Absolutely it does. Brownlee, of course, was referring to OnePlus, which started off as a “flagship killer” but has since abandoned its original ethos, now another smartphone company with an extensive lineup of phones.

Pei took note of the excavation, and, however, appeared to be carrying it forward. Responding to MKBHD’s tweet that shared the video, Pei said, “I see what you did there in the end.”

Nothing Pophone (1) will be launched on July 12 and will support transparent back and wireless charging. According to Brownlee’s video, the phone will have a hole-punch selfie camera on the screen, which is expected to be over G-inch in size. Other specifications, while the rumors are yet to be confirmed. The phone (1) is expected to cost around Rs 40,000, which places it in the mid-premium tier.
