Canada’s Global News reported on Monday that Canada has deployed a small contingent of Special Forces operators to Ukraine, after security talks ended last week without success in resolving tensions between Moscow and Kiev.

Canada’s special operations presence is part of an effort by NATO allies to identify ways to stop the Russian invasion of Ukraine and aid the Ukrainian government, Global News reported, citing unspecified sources.

Global News said the unit is also tasked with helping to develop an evacuation plan for Canadian diplomatic personnel in the event of a full-scale invasion.
