“Canavine” was harvested, the first national variety of medical cannabis

The National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA) together with the Sativa Science Association produced Canvaine, the first variety of medicinal cannabis in the country, integrating the production of a total of 850 plants from the Commandant Guerico Experimental Station in the upper valley of the Rio Negro.

This is INTA’s first pilot test, which initially estimated production at around 40 grams per plant, “but it doubled, which is excellent,” said Marianna Amorosi, the crop’s legal manager.

The project integrates a plant breeding program, the germplasm bank and propagation of varieties at INTA Bariloche, cultivation at INTA’s Alto Valle Experimental Station and resin extraction at the Pasedati laboratory, with the production of phytopreparations by the state’s producer Rionegrina Pharmaceutical Society (Profers). goes. , of Vedma.

It also articulates with other INTA groups such as the Soil and Water Laboratory and the Center for Multipliers of Biocontrollers (Cemubio) of INTA Alto Valle and the Secretary of Science and Innova Technology of Rio Negro.
It is also planned to cultivate the variety under cover in a greenhouse, macro tunnel and in the open sky to find out how the plant behaves under different production conditions.

This is an unprecedented project in the country that stands apart from most for public-private articulation, especially for the exchange of knowledge and strategies between INTA research teams and sativa science growers and professionals.

Amorosi pointed out that the Canvaine variety, which is high in CBD (cannabidiol), already has a National Seed Institute (INSE) registration and is owned by INTA and the association.
