Well, many Democrats say it was a message: we need to do more. We didn’t. We were punished for not adopting these promised bills.
I think the opposite is true. I think the voters said: we do not like what you are doing.
There are two different things here, and Democrats are trying to tie them together: the infrastructure law and the recovery efficiency bill, two different things. The infrastructure bill enjoys tremendous bipartisan support. They have to go through this. They have to accept this tonight and show that they are doing something, not only politically, but also that the country needs an infrastructure law.
But people thought – we must remember that the 2020 elections were a referendum on Donald Trump. It’s not about problems. It’s not about what Biden promised to do. It was that we either want Trump to be bigger or we will kick him out. They voted to expel him. Most did.
But they thought they were getting a safe alternative with Joe Biden. And he turned out to be a guy who was much more aggressively liberal with the Bernie Sanders wing than people voted for.
