In the first two months of the year, 7,112 cars were sold, which is higher than the 7,013 cars bought in the same period of 2020, months before the pandemic.
About 1,500 more cars were sold in the first two months of the year than in the same period in 2022, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC).
Sales in January and February stood at 7,112 vehicles, higher than the 7,013 registered in 2020.
It should be remembered that the COVID-19 pandemic started in March 2020, so economic activity developed normally in the first two months of that year.
Although they are an improvement of 25% compared to 2022, the figure still does not reach the one registered in 2019, when 7,721 cars were sold in the first two months of the year.
Since 2021, the top-selling vehicle model in the country has been SUVs and in the first two months of the year, the trend was maintained with 3,698 units being bought, followed by 1,822 units of so-called regular cars.
Regular cars include sedan, coupe and pickup models.
Another model that has grown in sales again is the pickup, with 793 units in January and February, nearly 40% more than in 2022, when 568 were placed.
According to the Association of Automobile Distributors of Panama (ADAP), the five best-selling vehicle brands in 2022 were Toyota, Hyundai, Kia, Suzuki and Nissan.
As far as the models are concerned, the best selling models were Toyota Hilux, Hyundai Xcent, Toyota Corolla Cross, Toyota Rush and Toyota RAV4.
