Carol Startup Obituary (2021)

Startup, Carol Jean

WAUNAKEE – Carol Jean, 75, of Waunakee’s startup, died on Thursday, November 4, 2021, at home surrounded by her family. She was born on August 19, 1946, in Oconto Falls, Wis., the daughter of Harold and Eleta (Keith) Heckendorf.

Carol grew up on a small farm in northeastern Wisconsin and was the eldest of seven children. This is where his love for helping nature, animals and people began. His mission in life was to spread kindness wherever he went.

Carol lived her life by her faith and in the true nature through her daily actions, connecting her faith to all that she encountered. As a member of the Peace Lutheran Church, she loved teaching Sunday school, volunteering to help others, distributing Christmas cookies for all to enjoy, and cherishing the fellowship around her.

Carol’s family was always the center of her heart, and she was loved unconditionally. No matter the time or distance, when you saw Carol, it was a smile and a deep embrace. When she was always ready for conversation and laughter with her family. If there was any thrill to be had, Carol was there. Some of his best memories were his family trips to the glacier and Hawaii. She loved hiking, biking, kayaking and vintage shopping. She was happiest when her hands were in the dirt working on her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. She embraced the beauty of every season and loved watching various birds and butterflies in her gardens. She was our “angel sent from heaven above”.

She is survived by her children, Michol (Barb Birken) Startup of Greenville, Wis., and Courtney (Brian) Rockwell of Waunaki, Wis.; and siblings, Jim (Judy) Heckendorf of Pickrell, Wis., Judy (Dennis) Blazek of Okonto Falls, Wis., Linda (Tom) Blazer of Okonto Falls, Wis., and Bonnie (Dave) of Green Bay, Wis. Wellnitz.
