Cats Fall Four in California

BERKELEY, Calif. – The Wildcats lost the first game of the weekend to Cal (24-26, 20-25, 25-20, 18-25) on Friday night.

Sofia Maldonado Diaz and Jordan Wilson each recorded 10 or more kills. Maldonado Diaz led the Wildcats with 16 kills and Wilson had 13 kills. Jaelyn Hodge followed by nine murders. Alayna Johnson recorded three kills and five blocks.

Cal won the first set, 24-26. Arizona held the lead for most of the set until the Golden Bears pulled ahead at the end. Wilson led the Wildcats with five kills and Maldonado Diaz had three kills.

Arizona fell 20-25 in the second set. Maldonado Diaz tallied four kills and Wilson had five kills. Cal went on a run to take a big lead midway through the set and Arizona never came back.

The Wildcats won Set 3, 25-20. Maldonado Diaz recorded four kills while Jordan and Hodge each had three kills. Johnson tallied two solo blocks and There’s Heath won the set with his third service ace of the match.

Cal won Set 4, 18-25, to win the match. Arizona slipped to a big early lead but fought back in the set but it wasn’t enough. Hodge led the Arizona attack with five kills and Maldonado Diaz had three kills.

The Cats will face No. 3 Stanford on Sunday, October 1 at 1 pm MST in Palo Alto.
