Centrist senator resigns from Democratic Party and registers as independent

US Senator Kirsten Sinema has decided to register as an independent and leave the democratic partyThat leaves the US Senate with a reasonable majority for President Joe Biden’s party.

With the victory in Georgia last Tuesday, the Democrats’ majority in the Senate was split to 51 Democratic delegates against 49 Republicans, although the senator’s departure from Arizona now leaves the majority at 50.

“In a natural extension of my service since I was first elected to Congress, I have joined the growing number of Arizonans who reject party politics “Declaring my independence from the Washington partisan system and formally registering as an independent,” the senator said in a message posted to Twitter this morning.

Sinema, known for taking independent and sometimes anti-party positions in several key votes for Democrats in recent years, said her decision would not change her job in the Senate and recalled that since she came to the upper house, “Proudly” worked with other senators and helped build consensus on several bills.

Since 2019, the Upper House Representative for Arizona, Kirsten Sinema has been tending towards more conservative positions and has on several occasions made it difficult for the current Democratic administration led by Joe Biden to approve initiatives.

Both he and Joe Manchin, the main head of the Democratic ranks in the Senate and conservatives like Sinema, have also blocked Biden’s party’s intention to approve an exception to the filibuster rule, which would have allowed initiatives without the need for approval. Must have given Qualified majority of sixty seats required for its processing.

On other occasions, he has sided with his party over key approvals such as the climate and fiscal plan, which came to the fore in August with votes from all Democrats, including Sinema and Manchin, who ended support at the last minute. A project that seemed dead.
