Until recently, one of the disappointments of the season was the Golden State Warriors. The champions languished in the lower-mid area of the table, with a game that could be greatly improved, after losing members of the second unit, with youngsters who didn’t quite make the grade, Draymond Green and Klay. With Thompson at a fairly low level and Stephen Curry injured, the only thing it should do is work. But all that seems to be the past. The Warriors have already played two games above 50% winning percentage, have won more than they have lost for some time now and are currently on a three-win streak. It is not a historical streak but it starts for a reason. And more importantly, they are increasingly reminiscent of the team we all had in mind. They may no longer be the 2015 Warriors who changed the league. Or 2018 for many of the best teams in history. But in this open west, a good version of the current Warriors could very well take them to another finals. And it looks like they’ve got to work.
They started a three-game tour in Oklahoma and they couldn’t have started it better. The San Francisco guys had a remarkable game, excelling in the first half when they overwhelmed the Thunder’s defense, for which the defensive exit plan clearly failed to work. He was up 15 points (48–63) at halftime, made 12 of his 25 threes, and distributed 21 assists on 23 baskets. Curry had 18 points and Klay had 16 points. Back in the locker room, things changed. It is necessary to recognize that these Thunder have fighting spirit, that they will not let go as a team without aspirations beyond next year’s draft. They’ve already turned that page and try to compete every night. Today, after a very poor first 24 minutes, they re-entered the game with their best players. Especially Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who scored 21 of his 31 goals in the second half. But even with Josh Gide (21+8+6) or Jalen Williams (19).
A three-pointer by Mike Muscala at the buzzer in the third quarter kept the margin under two points (85–94) and it continued to shrink during the last period until it was within a shot of two. That’s where Champion reacted, turning serious when he played and won, especially when Curry’s 8 triples of the night with 2:35 left to go put the score at 107–115. left, which was already impossible for the Thunder to come back. In the end, the point guard finished with 38 points, 8 rebounds and 12 assists. Klay with 28 points, 6 triples and 7 rebounds. And Green is flirting with one of his triple-doubles (7+9+12). and the Warriors, halfway from fourth to fifth (just two up from tenth), who only want to look up. What a match for a team like him. For a champion team.
