A Pennsylvania man has been charged with attempted murder after his mother was taken to the hospital on Thanksgiving, authorities said Monday.
Michael Giffing, 42, was arrested after EMS responded to a call of a man who had fallen unconscious at a house. in the 300 block of W Ashbridge Street in West Chester on Thursday night, the West Chester Police Department said.
While police were en route, the call was upgraded to probable. Giffing’s mother, Dorothy, was taken to the hospital. However, police said that his injuries were “not consistent with a fall.”
A subsequent investigation determined that Giffing had assaulted his mother, the police said.
So far, Michael has been charged with simple assault, attempted murder, recklessly endangering another person, and others.

“The family was celebrating, they had just had dinner. The suspect, known to be the ex-husband of the deceased woman, entered through the back door and began shooting at people. who were inside the house,” Cantu said.
There were four other people inside the house, but they ran to the rooms for safety as soon as they heard the gunshots. Cantu said the suspect fired multiple shots and reloaded the gun at least once during the incident. After this the accused fled from the spot.
Police received a report of the shooting at 9:18 p.m., and officers arrived on the scene five minutes later and shot four people in the home.
An adult male and an adult female were pronounced dead at the scene. A 15-year-old victim is in stable condition, while the surviving adult male is in critical condition.
Police said they are not sure of the relationship between the victims at this time, as the family had invited non-family friends to the gathering.
