On Saturday, preparations for the 2022 Winter Classic at Target Field reached another level, as Wild officially announced the jerseys they will wear in the big game.
The unveiling ceremony was held at the Minnesota State Fair and Wild Captain Jared Spurgeon proudly showed off this sweater for everyone to see.
According to the news released by the team, the design draws on the retrospective of St. Paul Saints in the 1930s and incorporates the traditional Wild color palette. The cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul are highlighted in front, and the outline of Minnesota bridges the gap. This was done strategically to symbolize how the city will come together before the 2022 Winter Classic.
“The game was played at the home court of the Minnesota Twins, and we certainly conveyed the spirit of Minnie and Paul to our Winter Classic sweaters,” said Wild Senior Brand Consultant John Maher in the team release. “The stripes, fonts and fabrics used in the final Adidas design were all inspired by the Saint Paul and Minneapolis hockey teams in the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s.”
As for the game itself, Wild will host the St. Louis Blues team at Target Field, home of the Minnesota Twins, on January 1, 2022. More information about re-rating tickets will be provided later.
